Head to head
EGO ST1521S vs DeWalt DCST922B
Head-to-head: EGO's 56V Powerload trimmer against DeWalt's 20V Max workhorse.
#1 in our rankings · Best Overall

EGO EGO Power+ ST1521S
Best for: Homeowners with medium to large yards who want gas-level cutting power and hate rewinding trimmer line.
Our recommendation
Get the EGO ST1521S unless you already own DeWalt 20V Max batteries. The EGO's wider swath, thicker line, and automatic head are objectively better for the work itself; the DeWalt's advantage is purely economic, and only for existing platform owners.
Cutting width and line
The EGO cuts a 15-inch swath with 0.095-inch dual line; the DeWalt cuts 13 inches with 0.080-inch line. On weeds and large lawns, the EGO's extra two inches and thicker line translate to fewer passes and fewer snapped lines.
Line feed system
EGO's Powerload head winds line automatically and Line IQ feeds it as it wears. The DeWalt uses bump feed, which works but requires stopping and tapping the head on the ground every time line shortens.
Platform economics
The DeWalt is sold as a bare tool, making it the cheapest option by far for anyone who already owns 20V Max batteries and a charger. The EGO requires buying into the 56V ARC Lithium platform, a bigger upfront investment that pays back if you add EGO mowers or blowers later.
