Google Nest Audio Review (2026)
In-depth research review of the Google Nest Audio: sound quality, Google Assistant, and smart home fit.
Google Nest Audio
Best-sounding assistant speaker for Google homes.
Our verdict
The Nest Audio is the best-sounding mainstream smart speaker and the natural choice for Google households. Google Assistant handles complex questions and routines better than Alexa, and the fabric-wrapped design disappears into any room. The lack of a hub radio and aux input are the main compromises.
What we like
- Excellent sound for the size and price
- Google Assistant handles questions and routines well
- Clean fabric design fits any room
What to watch out for
- No Zigbee or Z-Wave hub
- No 3.5mm input
- Google's smart home app changes frequently
Who it is for
Google Assistant users who prioritize music quality and natural voice interaction.
Sound quality
The 75 mm woofer and 19 mm tweeter produce clear, balanced audio that reviewers consistently rate above the Echo for music. Bass is present without overwhelming, and stereo pairing two units creates a convincing soundstage for the price.
Google Assistant
Assistant excels at follow-up questions, contextual queries, and routines triggered by natural phrasing. Broadcast and Duo calling features work well for households. Google's frequent app redesigns can move settings around, which is a minor ongoing annoyance.
Smart home role
Without Zigbee or Z-Wave, the Nest Audio controls Wi-Fi and Matter devices only. For typical setups of plugs, bulbs, and thermostats this is fine. Heavy Zigbee users should add a dedicated hub or choose the Echo instead.

Questions, answered
Does Nest Audio work with Alexa devices?
They coexist on the same Wi-Fi but do not integrate: routines and device control stay within each assistant's own ecosystem.
Can I play music from my phone via Bluetooth?
Yes, standard Bluetooth pairing works, plus Chromecast built in for app-based casting.
Is there a 3.5mm jack?
No. The Nest Audio has no aux input or output, unlike some Echo models with line-out.
