Karaoke Machine Problems? Fixes (2026)

Common karaoke machine problems: no microphone sound, feedback, no lyrics, pairing failures, and a machine that will not charge.

Most karaoke trouble comes from microphone pairing, volume balance, or a lyrics device, not from a broken machine. Work through these fixes in order before considering a return or a repair.

The microphone produces no sound

Check the microphone power and battery first, then the microphone volume knob, which is separate from the master volume on most machines. Confirm the microphone is paired or plugged into the correct input, and try the second microphone input if one exists. A microphone that lights up but stays silent usually has its own volume turned down, or is paired to a different channel than the one selected.

Loud feedback or squealing when singing

Move the microphone away from the speaker and point it away from the speaker grille, since feedback happens when a microphone hears itself through the speaker. Lower the microphone volume and the echo slightly, and step back from the speaker if the room is small. Feedback that appears only at high volume is a placement problem, not a machine fault, and a larger room or a lower volume usually solves it.

Lyrics do not appear on a screen or television

Check the lyrics device first: confirm the app or video is playing, the correct input is selected on the television, and the HDMI or auxiliary cable is fully seated. On a screen machine, confirm WiFi is connected and the app has loaded, and restart the app if lyrics freeze. On a disc machine, confirm the disc is a CD+G disc, since an ordinary music CD carries no lyrics graphics.

Bluetooth pairing fails or keeps dropping

Forget the machine in the phone or tablet Bluetooth settings, then pair again from scratch, standing close to the machine with no other Bluetooth device connected. Move the phone or tablet closer during singing, since a device in another room or in a pocket can drop the connection. If pairing fails repeatedly, try an auxiliary cable or a USB drive as a workaround, which also proves whether the speaker itself works.

Questions, answered

Why can I hear music but not my voice?

Because microphone volume and music volume are separate controls on most machines. Raise the microphone volume, check the microphone power and pairing, and lower the music volume slightly so the voice sits over the backing track rather than under it.

Why does the microphone cut out while singing?

Usually because of distance, low batteries, or interference. Move closer to the machine, replace or recharge the microphone batteries, and keep the microphone away from routers and other wireless devices that can interfere with the signal.

Can I use a karaoke machine without WiFi?

Yes, for music and singing over Bluetooth, USB, cards, or discs, depending on the machine. WiFi is needed mainly for streaming apps and lyrics apps on screen machines, so a disc machine or a USB playlist works without any network at all.
