Standing Desk Not Working? Fixes for Common Problems

Standing desk stuck, uneven, beeping, or making noise? Step-by-step fixes for the most common electric desk problems.

Most electric standing desk problems have simple causes: a tripped safety stop, legs that lost synchronization, or a control box that needs a reset. Work through the fixes below in order before contacting support, since manufacturers will ask you to try a reset first anyway.

Desk does not move at all

First check power: confirm the control box LED is lit and the handset cable is fully seated. Then perform a hard reset: unplug the desk from the wall for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and hold the DOWN button until the desk reaches its lowest point and stops on its own. This recalibrates the motors and resolves most dead-desk cases.

Legs are uneven or the desktop tilts

Legs lose synchronization when one side meets resistance or after a power interruption. Run the reset procedure above: lower the desk fully and keep holding DOWN for several seconds after it stops. The control box relearns the leg positions during this full travel. If one leg consistently lags afterward, check for obstructions in its telescoping sections.

Control panel shows an error code or beeps

Error codes almost always indicate the anti-collision sensor triggered or the motors overheated from repeated adjustments. Clear any obstruction under or above the desk, wait 15 to 20 minutes for the motors to cool, then run the full reset. If a specific code persists, note it down: support will use it to identify whether the handset, control box, or a motor leg is at fault.

Grinding or clicking noise while moving

Light mechanical noise is normal, but grinding or rhythmic clicking is not. Check that the frame bolts are tight, especially where the legs meet the feet and the crossbar. Inspect the leg columns for debris or damage to the glide pads. If the noise comes from inside one leg and persists after tightening, that motor leg may need replacement under warranty.

Questions, answered

How often should I reset my standing desk?

Only when something is wrong: uneven legs, error codes, or unresponsive controls. Routine resets are unnecessary and do not improve performance.

Will resetting delete my memory presets?

On most desks, yes: a full recalibration clears stored heights. Reprogram your sitting and standing positions after the reset completes.
