Sunrise Alarm Clock Problems? Fixes (2026)

Common sunrise clock problems: light too dim, sleeping through the alarm, display too bright, radio issues, and lost settings.

Most sunrise clock complaints come down to placement, brightness settings, or power, not a faulty device. Work through these fixes before replacing the clock.

The sunrise is too dim to wake me

Raise the final brightness to maximum, move the clock closer to the bed and angle it toward your face, and remove anything shading the panel. If the model has an adjustable ramp, shorten it so the bright phase arrives sooner, and switch on a sound back-up at the end of the ramp.

I sleep through the alarm completely

Combine light with sound: set a natural sound or radio to play at full ramp, and add a second alarm a few minutes later on a phone or a second clock. Keep a consistent wake time for a week, since irregular schedules blunt any alarm, light-based or not.

The display is too bright at night

Dim the display to its lowest setting or switch it off if your model allows it. On manual-dimming models, set the night brightness once and leave it. If the display still glows, turn the clock face slightly away or cover it with a small cloth, keeping the light panel facing the bed.

FM radio reception is poor

Extend the antenna fully and move the clock away from metal objects and chargers that cause interference. Try a different station position, since bedroom reception varies by orientation. If radio matters daily, a model with a wired antenna or a strong local station is worth choosing.

Settings reset after a power cut

Check whether your model has battery back-up or a power back-up alarm and fit the back-up battery if it uses one. On app models, confirm routines are saved in the app, not only on the device, so they restore after an outage. After any cut, verify the time before relying on the alarm again.

Questions, answered

Why does my sunrise start at the wrong time?

Usually the alarm time, not the sunrise, is mis-set: the ramp starts before the alarm time by the ramp length. Check both settings, and remember daylight saving changes can shift the clock by an hour if it lacks auto update.

Can I use a sunrise clock with blackout curtains?

Yes, and it works better with them: a dark room makes the artificial dawn the dominant light cue. Open the curtains after waking for real daylight to complete the effect.
