Our verdict

The DJI Mic 2 is the most complete two-person wireless kit in this guide. Backup recording in each transmitter, a touchscreen receiver, and adapters for camera, USB-C, and Lightning cover almost every shoot a creator will attempt, and the charging case keeps the whole kit in one place. It is overkill for a solo phone creator, and it costs more than the budget kits, but for two-person video where a lost take cannot be reshot, it is the safest buy here.

What we like

  • Each transmitter records its own backup audio, so a wireless dropout does not lose the take.
  • The kit covers camera and both phone types, with USB-C and Lightning adapters in the box.
  • Two transmitters and a receiver in one charging case keep the whole two-person kit together.

What to watch out for

  • A two-transmitter kit with a case is more to carry and more to charge than a single phone mic.
  • The receiver screen and menus take a short learning curve before a first shoot.
  • It costs more than single-mic kits that would cover a solo creator just as well.

Who it is for

Two-person interviewers, vloggers, and YouTube creators recording on camera or phone.

What the kit actually includes

Two transmitters, one receiver, a charging case, USB-C and Lightning phone adapters, a 3.5mm camera cable, windscreens, magnets, and a pouch. That list matters because it removes the two most common extra purchases: a second transmitter for interviews, and an adapter for the phone you actually own.

Backup recording is the headline feature

Each transmitter records its own 32-bit float audio to 8 GB of internal storage, which the maker rates at up to 14 hours. That copy survives a wireless dropout, a dead receiver battery, or a cable pulled loose, and it is the feature that justifies the price for interviews and events that cannot be repeated.

Range and battery in real use

The maker claims 250 metres of range and 6 hours per unit, with 18 hours from the charging case. Those are line-of-sight figures in an empty space; indoors, walls and people cut the range, and cold weather shortens the battery. For a normal room, garden, or studio, both figures leave comfortable headroom.

What owners report

Commonly praised

  • the backup recording in each transmitter has saved interviews that would otherwise be lost
  • the receiver screen makes checking both levels quick before a take
  • one kit covers the camera and both phone types without extra adapters

Common complaints

  • the case and two transmitters add bulk to what could be a pocket kit
  • the receiver menus take a few shoots to learn
  • the price is hard to justify for a creator who only ever records alone

Questions, answered

Does the DJI Mic 2 work with an iPhone?

Yes. The kit includes a Lightning adapter alongside the USB-C adapter, so it connects to older iPhones as well as USB-C iPhones and Android phones. It also connects to cameras over the included 3.5mm cable.

Is the DJI Mic 2 worth it for solo creators?

Usually not. A solo creator uses one transmitter and leaves the second in the case, so a single-mic kit like the RODE Wireless ME or a phone-plug kit like the RODE Wireless Micro covers the same shoots for less. Buy the Mic 2 when a second person is likely, not just possible.

Can the Mic 2 record without the receiver?

Yes. Each transmitter can record its own audio to internal storage without a receiver connected, which makes it usable as a standalone pocket recorder for voice notes and backup audio.
