Our verdict

The Wyze Cam v3 is not a pet camera and does not pretend to be, which is exactly why it belongs here. Buy it if you want to see your pet for minimal money: color night vision, free 14-day clips, and local storage cover the observation use case completely. Skip it if you want treat tossing, bark-specific alerts, or any interaction beyond watching and talking.

What we like

  • Color night vision is genuinely impressive at this price
  • Free 14-day rolling cloud event clips
  • IP65 weatherproof, works indoors or out

What to watch out for

  • No treat dispenser, it is a security camera
  • Person detection requires subscription
  • Narrower pet-specific features than dedicated pet cams

Who it is for

Budget owners, multi-room coverage planners, and anyone who wants observation without interaction.

Color night vision

The standout spec is the Starlight sensor's color night vision: in low light where other budget cameras switch to grainy infrared, the Wyze holds color detail. For the 3 AM check-in on a restless dog or the nocturnal cat's zoomies, this is genuinely useful rather than a spec-sheet boast. The IP65 weather rating is irrelevant indoors but means the camera survives a knocked-over water bowl.

Free cloud and local storage

Fourteen days of rolling cloud event clips are free, no subscription required, which covers the did-the-dog-eat-the-couch investigation use case. A microSD slot adds continuous local recording for longer history. Person detection sits behind the subscription, but for pet monitoring that feature was never the point.

The pet-specific gaps

There is no treat dispenser, no bark-specific detection, and no pet-tuned alerting: motion alerts fire for curtains, shadows, and sunlight as readily as for the dog. The 130-degree fixed lens covers a room corner adequately but cannot follow a pacing animal. Two-way talk works, though the speaker is tuned for a visitor at the door, not a conversation with a dog across the room.

How it stacks up

Against the Furbo 360, the Wyze is observation where the Furbo is interaction, at a small fraction of the total cost. Owners who only check in visually should not pay the Furbo premium. Against the Eufy Pet Camera, the Wyze loses treat tossing and bark detection but wins on price by enough to buy three Wyze cameras for whole-home coverage. Against the Petcube Bites 2, the Wyze is the pragmatic alternative for owners who realize they will never actually use the treat feature. The Wyze wins whenever the job is watching, not interacting.

Questions, answered

Can I use two Wyze cameras for full coverage?

Yes, and that is the Wyze's superpower: two or three cameras cost less than one premium pet camera. Place one at the dog's main resting spot and one covering the entryway or kitchen, the two places dogs get into trouble.

Does it work on 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

No, the Wyze Cam v3 connects on 2.4 GHz only. This is actually an advantage for pet cameras: 2.4 GHz penetrates walls better, giving more reliable connections in far rooms. Make sure your router's 2.4 GHz band is enabled.

Will motion alerts spam me all day?

Out of the box, yes: shadows, light changes, and curtains all trigger events. Use detection zones in the app to mask windows and high-traffic irrelevancies, and set a cooldown that matches your tolerance. It takes a week of tuning to get right.
