Monitor Light Bar Problems? Fixes (2026)
Common monitor light bar problems: glare on screen, bar slipping, flickering, remote not working, and uneven lighting.
Most light bar problems are positioning, power, or fit issues rather than faults. Work through these fixes before returning a bar.
Light reflects on my screen
The bar is tilted too far back or mounted too low. Tilt it slightly forward so the beam lands on the desk, and check the bar sits level on the monitor top rather than angled toward the screen. True asymmetric bars should not glare when level; if glare persists, the bar may be mounted backwards.
Bar slips or tilts forward
Check the monitor thickness against the bar's fit range: a bar on too thin a monitor cannot grip, and on too thick a monitor it perches unstably. Tighten the clip or counterweight fully, and add the manufacturer's pad or accessory if supplied. Deeply curved monitors may need the Halo 2's wider mount.
Bar flickers or dims randomly
Try a different USB port or a mains USB adapter with adequate output, since weak ports and long extension cables starve the bar of power. If auto-dimming is on, a flickering room light or moving shadow can confuse the sensor: switch to manual mode to test, then reposition the sensor away from the flicker source.
Remote or controller does not respond
Replace or recharge the remote battery first, then check for obstructions between remote and bar sensor. Re-pair following the manual if the model supports pairing, and confirm the bar itself still responds to its on-bar controls, which isolates a remote fault from a bar fault.
Desk edges stay dark while the centre is bright
The bar is too short or too dim for the desk width. Centre the bar over the work area rather than the monitor, raise brightness, and consider a brighter model like the ScreenBar Pro for wide desks. For dual monitors, a second bar usually solves edge darkness better than maxing out one bar.
Questions, answered
Why does my bar turn off by itself?
Motion-sensing models switch off after a period with no movement, and auto-dimming models can dim to near-off in bright rooms. Disable the sensor or raise the manual brightness floor if the behaviour annoys you.
Can I leave a light bar on all day?
Yes, LED bars are designed for long use and draw little power. Auto-dimming models will also reduce output in daylight, so all-day use costs less than it appears.
